About Torremolinos

Torremolinos holds a special place in Spanish tourism history as the resort that launched the Costa del Sol\'s mass tourism boom in the 1960s. What was once a quiet fishing village became a magnet for sun-seeking Northern Europeans, and today it remains one of the most popular and affordable beach destinations on the coast.

The town offers 7 km of sandy beaches, with Playa de la Carihuela being the standout — a long stretch backed by chiringuitos (beach bars) serving fresh seafood and cold beer. La Carihuela was the original fishing quarter and retains much of its charm, with narrow streets leading down to the waterfront. The Calle San Miguel, a long pedestrianized shopping street, runs through the town center.

Torremolinos has evolved from its package-holiday roots into a more diverse destination. It\'s known as one of Spain\'s most LGBTQ+-friendly towns, with a vibrant scene centered on the La Nogalera area. Aqualand water park, Crocodile Park, and the lively nightlife make it popular with families and younger travelers alike.

Good to Know

Late Night Transport

After midnight, taxis from the airport to Torremolinos cost EUR 10-15. The Cercanías train runs until about 11:45 PM. Torremolinos is a nightlife town, so taxis are readily available in both directions well into the early hours, especially in summer. The Cabify app also works for this route.

Luggage Tips

The Cercanías train handles luggage well for this ultra-short journey. Note that Torremolinos station requires walking down a steep hill to reach the beach/hotel zone — a taxi is more practical with heavy bags. La Carihuela hotels are best reached by taxi from the airport to avoid the hill.

The Cercanías train has wheelchair-accessible carriages. Torremolinos' beach promenade (Paseo Marítimo) is flat and accessible. The town center around Calle San Miguel is pedestrianized and mostly level. Some streets leading to the beach are steep. Beach wheelchair access is available at several Blue Flag beaches during summer.
