About Niseko Ski Resort

Niseko is a world-class ski destination on the slopes of Mount Niseko-Annupuri, renowned for receiving some of the lightest, driest powder snow on Earth thanks to cold Siberian air masses picking up moisture over the Sea of Japan. The resort consists of four interconnected ski areas—Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village, and Annupuri—offering over 2,000 acres of skiable terrain with abundant off-piste opportunities.

The Hirafu village area has developed into a cosmopolitan alpine town with luxury condominiums, izakayas, après-ski bars, and restaurants catering to the large Australian, Singaporean, and Hong Kong visitor base. In summer, Niseko transforms into an adventure playground for rafting on the Shiribetsu River, mountain biking, golf, and hiking with views of the photogenic Mount Yotei volcano. The resort has Japan\'s highest concentration of international accommodation outside of Tokyo, with prices to match during peak winter season (late December–February).

Good to Know

Late Night Transport

The Niseko Express bus last departure from the airport is typically around 5:00–6:00 PM in winter. For late arrivals, a private transfer (¥30,000–50,000 for up to 4 passengers) is the only option. Some accommodation providers offer evening shuttles from the airport during peak season—arrange in advance. There is no train service to Niseko after 9:00 PM.

Luggage Tips

Ski and snowboard equipment can be rented in Niseko, often at better rates than bringing your own. If bringing gear, airport bus services have large luggage bays. Luggage forwarding services (takkyubin) can ship bags from the airport directly to your Niseko accommodation—use Yamato Transport at the airport for next-day delivery.

Accessibility

The Hirafu village has some accessible accommodations, and the ski resorts offer adaptive skiing programs. However, Niseko's steep village streets and heavy snow make wheelchair navigation very difficult in winter. The Niseko Express bus is not wheelchair accessible. Private transfers in accessible vehicles should be arranged through specialist operators.
