Heuston Station is Dublin main intercity rail station for trains to Cork, Galway, Limerick.

About Heuston Station

Heuston Station (Stáisiún Heuston) is a grand neoclassical building on the south bank of the River Liffey, serving as the gateway to Ireland\'s south and west. Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) operates regular intercity services from here to Cork (2.5 hrs), Galway (2.5 hrs), Limerick (2 hrs), Killarney (3.5 hrs), and Waterford (2 hrs). The station was named after Seán Heuston, a leader of the 1916 Easter Rising who was executed at nearby Kilmainham Gaol.

The station area offers interesting diversions for travelers with time between connections. The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is housed in the magnificent Royal Hospital Kilmainham, a 5-minute walk from the station. Kilmainham Gaol, where many Irish revolutionary leaders were imprisoned and executed, is one of Dublin\'s most powerful and moving historical sites (10-minute walk). The Phoenix Park—one of the largest enclosed urban parks in Europe, home to Dublin Zoo and a herd of fallow deer—begins just north of the station across the Liffey.
