About Maspalomas / Playa del Ingles
Playa del Inglés, directly adjacent to Maspalomas, is Gran Canaria's largest tourist resort area, built in the 1960s-70s to cater to northern European sun-seekers. The area centers around the Yumbo Centrum shopping and entertainment complex (also the hub of the island's LGBTQ+ scene) and features hundreds of hotels, apartment complexes, restaurants, and nightlife venues. The beach stretches for over 2.5 km with consistently warm swimming conditions.
Beyond the beaches, the Maspalomas area offers the Palmitos Park (a subtropical zoo and botanical garden), Sioux City theme park, Aqualand water park, and the Maspalomas Golf Course — one of Spain's most scenic courses set among the dunes. The Faro de Maspalomas (lighthouse, built 1890) marks the island's southern tip and the start of the coastal promenade toward Meloneras, an upscale resort district with luxury hotels and beachfront dining.
