About Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is France's largest airport and the busiest in the European Union, handling over 67 million passengers annually. Located in Roissy-en-France, 25 km northeast of Paris, CDG serves as the main hub for Air France and is a major hub for SkyTeam alliance carriers. The airport has three main terminal areas connected by the free CDGVAL automated shuttle.

Terminal 1, the original terminal opened in 1974, features a distinctive circular design inspired by an octopus. Terminal 2 is the largest complex, divided into sub-terminals 2A through 2G, and handles most Air France and SkyTeam flights. Terminal 3 (formerly T9) serves low-cost carriers and charter flights.

CDG is connected to central Paris by the RER B regional train, and to the French high-speed rail network via its own TGV station within Terminal 2. This integration makes CDG a gateway not just to Paris but to destinations across France and neighboring countries, with direct TGV services to Lyon, Marseille, Strasbourg, Brussels, and other cities without entering Paris.

Good to Know

Late Night Transport

After midnight, the only public transport option is the Noctilien N143 bus (Orly to CDG via central Paris, very slow). Taxis between the two airports cost approximately €60-80 at night and take 45-60 minutes with light traffic. Some private shuttle services operate overnight by reservation.

Luggage Tips

If using public transport (OrlyVal + RER B), you will need to manage luggage through multiple transfers at Antony and potentially Châtelet-Les Halles. For heavy luggage or tight connections, a direct taxi or airport shuttle is strongly recommended. Le Bus Direct (formerly Cars Air France) used to operate a direct bus but check current status.

Accessibility

Direct taxi or shuttle is the most accessible option between the two airports. The RER B route involves multiple transfers that can be challenging for wheelchair users. Both airports have accessible facilities. If using the shuttle service, request wheelchair-accessible vehicles in advance.
