About IND
Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is consistently rated as one of the best airports in North America by J.D. Power and Condé Nast Traveler. The Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal, which opened in 2008, features a spacious civic plaza, abundant natural light, and one of the best airport dining scenes in the US. Located just 11 km southwest of downtown Indianapolis, IND is the primary airport for Indiana and serves as a major FedEx Express hub.
Why "IND"?
IND simply stands for Indianapolis, the capital city of Indiana. The terminal is named after Col. Harvey Weir Cook, a World War I flying ace from Indiana.

The terminal's design incorporates Indiana limestone and glass, creating a bright, airy atmosphere. Named after Col. Harvey Weir Cook, an Indiana-born WWI flying ace.
