About MUC
Munich Airport, officially Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß, is Germany's second-busiest airport after Frankfurt and consistently ranked among Europe's best. Located 28.5 kilometers northeast of Munich, the airport opened in 1992 as a modern replacement for the older München-Riem Airport. The airport is renowned for its efficiency, cleanliness, and the innovative Munich Airport Center (MAC) connecting its two terminals. As the secondary hub for Lufthansa and Star Alliance, Munich serves as a major gateway to Bavaria, the Alps, and destinations throughout Europe and beyond. The airport has won numerous awards for its quality and passenger experience.
Why "MUC"?
MUC comes from the German spelling of Munich: Munchen. The airport is officially named Flughafen Munchen Franz Josef Strauss, after the former Bavarian Minister President.

Insider Tips
Munich Airport is consistently rated one of Europe's best. Don't miss Airbräu, the airport's own brewery between terminals - try the Kumulus beer. The S-Bahn is efficient but the journey is 40 minutes. T2 Satellite requires an automated train from T2 main - allow extra time. If you have a long layover, the Visitors Park has a historic aircraft collection. The airport is extremely well-organized with clear signage. Lufthansa passengers should use T2 and its satellite.
