Playa de Palma is a popular beach resort area just 5 km east of the airport.

About Playa de Palma / S Arenal

Playa de Palma is a 6-kilometer stretch of fine white sand running from Can Pastilla near the airport to the resort town of S'Arenal at the eastern end. This is Mallorca's most developed beach strip, lined with hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, and the famous Balnearios (numbered beach bar sections) that serve as landmarks along the shore.

The beach itself is one of the best urban beaches in the Mediterranean, with calm, shallow waters perfect for families, excellent facilities including showers, sunbed rentals, and water sports operators. The palm-lined promenade running the full length is popular for cycling and jogging. Beach clubs like Balneario 6 (also known as "Ballermann 6" to German visitors) have a legendary party reputation.

S'Arenal at the eastern end is a working-class Mallorcan town with a small harbor and local market (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The area offers a more affordable alternative to Palma city for beachgoers. The Palma Aquarium, one of Europe's largest aquariums featuring a shark dive experience, is located along this strip near the airport end.

Late Night Transport

EMT buses serve the Playa de Palma area until about midnight in summer with a night bus running hourly after that on weekends. Taxis from PMI to Playa de Palma/S'Arenal cost just €8-15 and are available 24/7 at the airport. Some resort hotels offer free airport shuttles.

Luggage Tips

Given the short distance, taxis are the most convenient option with luggage (under €15). The bus can accommodate bags but is often full with beach equipment in summer. Most Playa de Palma hotels are right along the main road and easy to reach by any transport.
